In Which Sian Mixes and Matches with Jackie Graves

When Sian joined Second Life a little less than two years ago, Jackie Graves was the first designer whose name she knew. Jackie has been making beautifully textured clothes that are a little sci-fi and a little pervy for a while now, and in the last two years she's gone from strength to strength, producing outift after outfit to the highest standard.

One of the most interesting things about Jackie Graves' work is that her clothes, although available in a dazzling variety, are all cut from the same group of textures and a set of common patterns, meaning that they mix and match with startling facility, while Graves' prim attachments can be used with multiple outfits (Sian is particularly fond of the little carabiner hooks that come with the Crossfire outfits). Most Graves outfits include options. With the right two sets your options explode, and with more than that... well. Sian's been mixing and matching Graves outfits like nobody's business. Here are some of the best ones.

Pretty much every outfit Jackie Graves makes is priced between L$400-490, which is about average for her sector, although in terms of quality, Jackie's stuff is far superior to most fetishwear emporiums in SL. Shoes are mostly between L$300 and L$400, although one or two items are more or less than that.

Most of Sian's jewellery is her own work. She is wearing the [PXL] Gaia Dark skin and its makeups in all of these pictures. Obviously, the vast majority of the clothes here come from Graves, and this is the link to the Graves Mainstore.

Graves Mashup 2
Parts from:
G230 Operative (corset, blouse, cuffs, collar/tie, glasses, gloves)
G200 Executive (pencil skirt, hat, stockings)
G201 Executive Stilettos (shoes)
G166 Viper Catsuit (belt, briefcase)
G331 Jinx (nipple tape)
G210 Defence White (shoulderpads)

The Executive and Operative sets go together perfectly, since they have that slightly off-kilter official thing going on.

The Executive set is the only one of the Graves sets that includes a system skirt. Sian finds that with a system skirt, particularly one clearly designed to be a pencil skirt, a good skirt shape is essential - to make the skirt look better, Sian made a variant shape based on her usual one (Sian, vain as ever, calls that "the fashion model shape"), reduced her hips, bottom and "saddle bags" and made herself knock-kneed. Without the skirt she looks absolutely ridiculous, but with it on, the difference is pretty obvious.

The Executive Shoes are only L$150, although Sian wonders if they wouldn't be better served as part of the Executive set. The hat from the Executive set is modifiable and (well-)made from traditional prims. Sian had to modify it quite severely to make it fit on her head, shrinking down and widening the five prims that make up the main section of the hat almost halfway.

Sian was standing on top of the Gemini building in Insilico when she took this one, by the way, although you can't really see much of it. All the other ones were taking in various places in Toshigi Cybercity Japan, which has already become one of Sian's favourite futuristic spots.

More Graves Mashups

Parts from:
G332 Legion Red (catsuit)
G324 Paradox 2 Black (harness thing, socks, gloves, plugs, collar)
G325 Paradox 3 Black (sleeves)
G331 Jinx (pockets)
G179 Crossfire (carabiner hooks, padlock)

Note also
[Abyss] Stompers

The Legion, Jinx and Paradox sets are the most recent releases from Graves. Sian has already blogged the Paradox and Jinx sets and directs you to that post for more of the mixing and the matching. Rather than the usual black and white, the Legion outfit comes in seven vibrant colour options, available individually for L$400 or in a set with all seven for L$790, and frankly Sian thinks you'd be mad not to buy the fatpack if you fancied even two of them.

The prim parts on more recent releases from Graves have been no-mod, including resize scripts instead. Sian's a bit sad about this, although the resize scripts do go away when you press the right menu button.

By the way, Sian recognises that she has been wearing the Abyss Stompers a lot, and has never really talked about them. Sian is fond of them because they amount to three prims in each shoe and are modifiable - here, Sian took the black versions and by tinting them with a bit of grey got them to match the tone of the outfit. Sian recommends them for that very reason - if you have an outfit that's modern or futuristic and you can pull them off, buy a set (particularly of the silver or ice ones) and tweak them like crazy.

More Graves Mashups

Parts from:
G215 Cobra Black (sleeveless catsuit)
G216 Cobra White (long sleeved undershirt)
G196 Hydra Dress White (corset)
G331 Jinx (pockets)
G179 Crossfire Black (carabiner hooks)
G222 Crossfire White (padlock)
G210 Defence White (shoulder pads)

Note also
[The Plastik] Recluse Collar Black
[Eclectic Randomness] Gauntlets from Siren Avatar Black
[Rublik] Galactic Stomp Adders (boots)

The Cobra catsuits are nice straightforward catsuits with the same hex pattern featured on so many of the Graves outfits and a few nice prim attachment options. They are made for mixing and matching with Graves' other outfits and a good basis for other matches - click through on the picture to see the big version. The Hydra set (one of the very few Graves sets that doesn't come in black) shares the pattern, creating a set that maintains a harmonious balance between colour and shape.
Note the hex pattern on the Eclectic Randomness gauntlets that goes so nicely with the Graves catsuit.

Sian doesn't get to wear the Tokugawa Shock Helmet a lot but loves its elegance and the beauty of its textures. It's actually grey, but Sian darkened the metal bits with a bit more grey to get the black. The Plastik Recluse Collar was the right colour to begin with, though. There are loads of colour options - you get two in a pack and again, it's really nicely textured and sculpted. The Rublik Galactic Stomp boots are out of this world. Sian was glad you can resize them though, because when you get them they are massive, easily twice the size that they are here.

More Graves Mashups
Parts from:
Graves Black and White Insignia set (number)
G206 Defence Black (pants, shirt, shoulders, pockets)
G210 Defence While (underpants, undershirt)
G121 ZERO (bustier, gloves, number)
G222 Crossfire White (white vertical strap)
G179 Crossfire Black (carabiner hooks)
G166 Viper Catsuit (glasses)

One of the nice things about the Graves outfits is the options. Here we have the black version of the Graves Defence set worn without the transparent latex cutouts on top of the identical white version worn with the transparent latex, which creates a nice contrast.

The Zero set was the first Graves set that caught Sian's eye right back at the beginning. It's part of a smaller range of black and white anime-flavoured uniforms that Graves produced a couple of years ago, all of which of course mix and match beautifully.

Graves Mashup - Squeaky
Parts from:
G177 Escape Transparent Underwear (catsuit)
G206 Defence Black (nipple stripes)
G325 Paradox Black 3 (thong, socks, collar, gloves)

Note also:
[Neurolab] Activa Boots Black
[Ezura] Acha set (earphones)
[A:S:S] Drama Shadow Ash
[A&Y Bunker] Silicon Acid Eyes

The Escape underwear set is actually an optional add-on to another set, but with the right additions works fine on its own, as you can see here. Note the pattern of lines which maps onto Cobra, Defence and many other Graves sets. Sian made the lights on her back with three sphere prims and one of her own textures, although the other Escape sets include something similar.

Sian is ambivalent about the Neurolab boots. She can never get them to fit quite right on her feet, although they are very pretty from certain angles. They have a HUD that allows you to change the glow colour, though, which is nice.

Graves Mashup - Risky
Parts from:
Graves Black and White Insignia Set (number)
G216 Cobra White (undershirt, underpants)
G329 Paradox White 3 (sleeves)
G262 Risk (pants, shirt, gloves, loops)
G210 Defence White (nipple stripes, shoulderpads)
G222 Crossfire White (carabiner hooks, padlock)

Note also:
[Defectiva] Original Sin: Pride (chin cover)
[Ezura] Acha (visor and earphones)
[Bare Rose] Dadamalio (collar and sleeves)

Sian modified the shoulderpads from the white Defence set here, stretching them up a bit, making them a teeny bit transparent and adding a bit of glow, the better to go with the bits from the old Bare Rose Dadamalio set. See how even a non-standard set like Risk has an almost mathematical harmony with the other clothes. This isn't fashion design. This is science.

Sian recognises that this isn't really a post for the freebie-lovers out there, and that some of these outfits have a good L$4000 worth of stuff in them. But even with one or two of Jackie's outfits, you have a wide range of things you can do with them. Visit her store, marvel at the lovely futuristic outfits and dream about what you can do with them.

In Which Sian is Jinxed (Paradoxically)

In Which Sian Confesses She Hasn't Actually Seen Tron: Legacy

Sian hasn't seen Tron: Legacy. There. It's said. She's not actually bothered about that. But she loved the design. Sian spent weeks collecting pictures of the rubber-clad blonde Siren Gem, of Olivia Wilde's lovely Quorra, and wondered if there'd be costumes styled on the film in SL.

Silly. Before the film was even released, SL designers — loads and loads of them — had created Tron-themed outfits and Tron-themed sims. There. are. dozens. out there. Here are nine of them. And we're just scratching the surface. Sian didn't review, for instance, the Bare Rose sets (they do one based on the old movie as well as an up-to-date one) or the Karu Karu sets.

In all the pictures, Sian's collars, tattoos, earphones and jewellery are her own; she's wearing Miamai's NoAlpha Lashes 2 (L$150), various makeups by Nuuna, and you can't buy the eyes anymore (sorry). She's wearing the PXL Linda G3 Dark skins, the Pale Lips and Wine Lips variations (L$1000, L$900 for group members) — and in the inset pics, the LionSkins Nova Dark 8 skin.

Sian hardly ever wears hair. She likes being bald. She has a little bit of a thing for being bald. Besides, it tickles when it's windy.

Catsuit: [Sassy!] Cyber Siren Military Green (L$0 Dark Future Hunt gift)
Boots: [Neurolab] Activa Black Electro L$650

This is the same outift Sian blogged a few days ago. Sian's only a tiny bit sorry about that. She thought she'd include it for completeness' sake.

Besides, Sian loves this outfit. The textures are beautifully designed, it's obviously inspired by the film rather than just copied, and it's free! But only for a week or two more. Grab it while you can.

The epic Tron blog #2

Catsuit: [Grafosyakuza Shop] Suit Siren Program L$100
Boots: [Neurolab] Activa White Electro L$650

The Marketplace had a hiccup when Sian ordered this, and before she could contact the seller, he'd already given it for free and wouldn't take her money.

This outfit has a lot going for it: the light textures are separate layers, and tintable. It includes sculpted attachments designed to look as much like the Sirens in the film as possible (so if accuracy is your thing, this is your outfit — none of the others are quite as close). It even has a sculpted chest attachment so you don't have the pointy-chest thing going on.

Honestly, the textures aren't quite as polished as some of the more expensive outfits, from bigger shops, but for only L$100 you can't go wrong. Apart from the limited-time-only freebie, this one is cheapest by a mile and has a lot of potential for mixing and matching with the other sets.

Outfit: [Elixir] Lightcycle Purple L$400
Boots: as before

Sian thinks that Elixir might have been the first of the bigger stores to do Tron-themed outfits. It was the first one she spotted, anyhow. There are male and female versions of both the LightCycle and Siren (number 4, below) sets in lots of different colours.

They're low-prim, and nicely designed and textured.

Outfit (including shoes): [Elixir] Siren L$400

Sian bought this just before Christmas and wore it for a solid month. She loves it a lot.

Outfit: [Eclectic Randomness] White Siren L$450
Winter Ventura's shop is certainly eclectic, everything from adult and BDSM stuff down to robot avatars, toys and even a portaloo. She makes two of these, one white and one black.

As well as a beautifully textured catsuit, the set includes boots, gauntlets and backpack, all nicely sculpted and with HUD-controlled colour-changing glowy bits. And if that's not enough, you get a skin, shape, eyes and hair in half dozen colours, too, meaning that for L$450 you get a complete avatar, everything except the AO.

Oh my, though, thinks Sian, so many prims.

The epic Tron blog #6

Outfit: [Graves] Mainframe Bodysuit black/blue L$440
Shoes: [Graves] Mainframe Boots L$390

Of the complete outfits I'm reviewing here (the Elixir and ER Sirens and the Radia set are the others), this is the most expensive, but let's face it, you're paying for the quality. Beautifully textured, supplied with nice attachments and available separately in all the colours of the rainbow, in catsuit and dress versions for the girls and a catsuit version for the boys.

Buy all of them and you'll be a lot poorer, mind.

Sian particularly likes the neat little glasses with the animated display.

The epic Tron blog #7

Bodysuit: [sYs] Spectral Catsuit white/khrome L$280
Boots: as before

More loosely inspired than the other outfits, Sian especially likes the translucent panels on this set - look how you can see Sian's tattoos through the arm panel.

The epic Tron blog #8

Outfit: [Xeno Cyber Wear] Radia L$600
Nipple Tape: from [Graves] G222 Crossfire White

Sian doesn't play computer games (well, apart from that one you might know about), but understands that this is inspired loosely on a character in the computer game they made at the same time as the film.

The skirt is all sculpted prims, and the outfit includes an alpha layer that makes you disappear from the bum down. However, because it's attached to your pelvis, if you walk it swings from side to side and might look silly if your AO is not compatible. Sian solved the problem by putting a hip-fixer script in the dress and making a walk in her AO so she glides about in an eerie sort of way (you should IM Sian in-world if you have this set and want the scripts and anims she made. But say "please," because a little bit of politeness costs nothing). Sian also changed the colour of the glowy bits.

Despite its shortcomings, the concept of this outfit is marvellous and there really isn't anything like it in Second Life.

The set also includes body tattoos, which Sian is not wearing, because she is wearing her own tattoos. You can see them in this picture, though (and yes, Sian recycles poses. She's not made of Lindens):

The epic Tron blog #9

Catsuit: [sYs] Spectron Catsuit L$280
Boots: as before

Similar to the other outfit from sYs, Sian likes this one a bit more, if only because it gives the illusion of being shiny and rubbery and glowy at the same time.

Do we get a verdict?
Which one does Sian like best?

Sian loves the Graves Mainframe set (no. 6) but really doesn't feel it goes well with anything else. It's all or nothing, that one. Having said that, why would you want to mix it?

Sian thinks the Radia set is amazing and unique, but she had to put a lot of work into modifying it before she was happy with it.

The sYs sets are cheap and nicely done, and the GrafosYakuza set (#2) has those wonderful tintable light layers (which is an idea more people should have taken up) and nice attachments (it's the only one with that little battery pack thing that Gem has at the base of her spine, and the only one with a chest leveller attachment).

The Sassy! set is gorgeous and free, but green isn't really Sian's colour, and if you're not lucky enough to find it before it's gone, that's tough, really. The Elixir Lightcycle set has that cool helmet and goes with loads of stuff, but again, Sian didn't feel it suited her.

The Eclectic Randomness set is complete, exceptional value and beautifully designed, but in the end Sian is undecided between that and the Elixir Siren set for its beautiful, sleek simplicity.

In future, Sian's probably going to combine the Grafosyakuza set, the ER set and the Elixir set to create a sort of platonically perfect Siren.

You'll know when she does.

Skintight

Standing around and being glad because of not having to work as the latexsuit might get destroyed when touching something sharp.
Somehow my Second Life consists of surprises. I never supposed that i might ever be absolutly keen on a latexoutfit but when seeing this i needed to have it.Its a suit with gloves and stockings and a lot of straps. It could also be worn without some of the primparts but in my opinion it looks best with all of them.
The system layers come either with the latex or without. So if it is extremly warm it is possible to wear the suit without the latex. It still looks great.
The strap around the chest is optional it is also possible to wear only the vertical one with the collar and pasties if its needed.
To be honest i love the look of the whole set. But most i love how great it lets look my favourite tattoo. Somehow it looks under latex much more intresting than it looks without. Its also a question of taste if the boots from bax fit to the outfit or not. I like them in this combination. Some friends i asked had an other opinion.
