Climbing the tower

Her heels rang against the ageing metal, the soft swish of her gown did little to break the silence of the Paris dawn, but the heels were another story, all three hundred and forty seven steps...

There was no argument that the premier étage was a remarkable location for an early morning fashion shoot; the light was beautiful, the crowds still fast asleep in their beds.

All she needed now was for the photographer to find the perfect angle, the right balance of light and shadow. Then she could kick off those heels and run back down the stairs, to find a café au lait and a croissant.

Amazing gown. We are all used to everything we see in SL being a 'texture', some of us may even have experimented with texturing our own builds or designs. This gown is one of the few items I've seen in SL which really gives a feeling of tactile texture. The design feels so 3D its hard to believe its just a picture, it feels like devoré.

Sail away...

Frances had had an unusual summer so far. Work had mercifully come to an end, she had always worked long hours, for little pay or recognition, summer was her own, her chance to be catch up and rest. She had looked forward to getting all the little jobs done, reading, walking in the park. The first morning of summer had dawned with a warm golden light, even as the letter which would cast such a shadow over the following weeks fell through the letterbox onto the welcome mat.

The letter spoke of the death of her Grandfather, also her namesake. She couldn't understand. Over the years the family had drifted apart, as so often they did, but they had always come together during the holidays, out at the shore. This made no sense. Died and cremated before she had been informed? She had been bequeathed all his possessions, his apartment, from the folds of paper taken from the envelope fell a key.

It had been a longer darker journey from that day to this thank she cared to remember. Her eyes had been opened to sights and scenes she had never considered possible in the course of a normal life. As it turned out, there was no such thing, and there never had been. She had made it through, and now, relaxation had very much been earned. And so Frances took what had come to her in stages, let go of the bad, kept hold of the good; loosing the mainsail to catch the breeze, the Madpea sailed off into the sunset.

On Converse Row...

Scarlet had worked on Converse Row for years now. More than a stones throw from the worst end of town, but several tram stops from any bourgeois security. The tangle of narrow streets and lanes followed the same shambles pattern of centuries earlier, under the cracked tarmac and concrete lay cobbles worn by the ages. The Row held many businesses, mostly law abiding - except for high days and holidays...

She walked to work, red heels glinting in whichever light found them, twilight, streetlight or the dawn. Of course she wasn't for sale, no regular to the street, or visitor who would be welcomed back would allow that thought to cross their mind. Dealers and donut munching cops watched over the Row, sentient gargoyles, she had never felt safer. All eyes were on her.

On Converse Row, skin was business. Sold on the street and in the stores, Scarlet catered to them all. She could illuminate any form, deep shadows and beautiful highlights, the ink in her needles brought beauty to the blank canvas of the body. If you can pay, you could walk away as your own work of art.

Defending Avalon - We < 3 RP

The cliffs of Avalon had been a perfect defence for years. Time and tides scoured the coast, great boulders crumbled  to rocks, to stones, to sand. The barriers of mists, so ephemeral, still hung like curtains, keeping the eyes of of the mortal world from Avalon's shores.

Alrende came down to the shores each day to look at the cliffs, their physical presence brought her comfort in the continuation of her home. Staff in hand, she walked the sands, resilient grasses brushing her bare feet. The rubies of her staff held power from the heart of Avalon, those adorning her horns glowed softly with it. The isle would change through time, nothing could prevent that, but it would remain, and she with it. The alchemy in her hands to wield would protect the magic for all.

It had started months ago. Long before that infact...

She had been waiting, watching, planning.

There had been rumours, whispers reached out across land and ocean, repeating an unknown word.

She had had no concept of what it might mean, nothing more than excitement, and as was only sensible with the form of diversion she sought in such games, a hint of delicious dread. Emily had not expected it to start this way, for all her preparation had not seen it coming. Happy visions of the wedding the day before replayed in her mind, her best friend tying the knot, dancing, the cake... the champagne... the best man...

She hadn't noticed the throbbing of the car's engine, feeling nothing but the powerful beat of the stereo until it was too late. The dials flashed red, smoke belched from the bonnet as she skidded out of control. Clambering out of the wreckage, she stumbled along the roadway; lurching into a battered and dusty bullet pocked sign she rested. Looking up, she noted it marked the beginning of what appeared to be a town. Molimo.

She hadn't been in the town long. The people she had met had been... strange. One an alcoholic drinking away his lunch hour had thrown an empty bottle at her as she asked for assistance. Emily had fared a little better at the diner, the cherry pie, while delicious couldn't quite make up for the disconcerting gaze of the waitress and cop, both stood as though they had nothing better to do, even after she told her tale of the wreck along the highway. She had stopped by a store, she remembered that much, and little else thereafter. When next she awoke, voices not her own swirled through her head, calling out, calling for help, calling Unia, Unia, Unia. Only as she picked herself up, dressed in coveralls emblazoned with the word which filled her mind, and looked out upon the strange landscape of corn, and nightmares did she realise. What she had sought had found her at last. Now all she had to do, was survive it.

2 years in the making of the Madpeas' maddest minds - finally, here for your enjoyment and terror, is Unia.

An immersive game, more deadly than any which have come before! The first image here was my entry to the 'Are you ready for Unia?" photo competition run by Madpeas *beams* Which I won! *beams more*

The prize I received was a Gold Pass (tapping in to many a charlie and the chocolate factory dreams) for Unia. The game is playable with three different levels of pass:

Bronze : L$ 400 - With this you get an orange jumpsuit, the Unia HUD, and Shield.

Silver : L$ 750 - With this you get a while jumpsuit, the Unia HUD, double Shield and a Silver lockpick which allows access in game to a silver crate of goodies to boost your chance of survival.

Gold : L$ 1000 - With this you get all of the above, plus the black jumpsuit pictured, triple Shield and a Gold lockpick, allowing access in game to a gold crate of awesome, almost guaranteed to help you survive... for a while at least.

A new future

For centuries past, all the lands and seas around the citadel had contributed to its greatness. From beginnings many in the capital today would call inauspicious, a small fishing village on a natural harbour, amazing changes had occurred. Morgyn was a descendant of that hamlet, though her rise had little to do with lineage.

She had spent more than hours, more than days pondering the reasons behind the world, and the way it was today. This intellect had played a part in her attaining her current status, but had not helped her reach any concrete conclusion. Night followed day, and still people came, came bearing the profits of their labour, came to offer it up as part of something bigger than themselves. Those with nothing came to look upon what was made, and were inspired by it.

Still she had to wonder, what was it all for? The charm of the village, as rustic and run down as it was, had been buried beneath stone. Stone was topped with iron, steel, then silver and gold. Precious metals were chased and inlaid. It brought prestige, it brought envoys, it raised the working coastline to an empire. Had piled up riches in the hands and under the feet of those who had never toiled to earn them. Tradition and tradition alone, of appointment by lottery had brought her to these halls, to rest on drifts of diamonds.

She had it. The long night of the celebration ball and all its revelry faded as morning light crept across the shining floor of her chambers. The people came, they brought all they could. Her plans would unfold swiftly, those of the citadel were more misguided by greed and practice than malice, they would see the error of their ways, and the rightness of these new actions. All desired the betterment of their world, it would no longer be confined to their capital. Each would turn their talents and the fruits of their enterprise to their homes, to the lands of their friends. Diamonds and pearls would no longer outshine the beauty of wood and earth. All that could be made would be made, all that minds could imagine, and all would be able to see it.

A world of watercolour

Mei had come down to the water to witness the illusion which took place just once each decade.

Few believed such things were possible, no one who had never seen it could put any stock in the tales. Those who had been raised on stories of its existence, to them it was a wild dream, a fairytale of childhood, not something to search out as a truth. Mei had more faith in the tales she grew up loving than others. Ever an aesthete she had always liked to believe the stories, the words of which wove into such dreams there were days she had cried on waking for the loss of them.

Mei believed in dreams, in stories, in the words she had been given by parent and grandparent. She went down to the water, stepping into its cool embrace as the moon rose. Smooth flowing water grew in substance as the world faded away. The transparency through which the stones of the lake bed showed clearly now darkened, through sepia to the blackest of inks. Looking up, individual colour had drained from the world, replaced by delicate washes and brushstrokes. All had become art, as she had known it would. Now she had her own tale to tell, to pass down word of all she had seen to her own kith and kin. 

As sad as it is that the Skin Fair is over, many of the exclusives are now available in the creators own stores. Mei Lei is one such beautiful creation from DS'Elles. Beauty among clockwork - DS'Elles @ Skin Fair 2015

Life in the clockwork city tick tock ticked its way, the automatons in each workspace busying through the hours, clanking and whirring, all well oiled machines. The living were something of a rarity in the city now, where once heartbeats reverberated ribcages in every room, now exoskeletons brushed past each other, gliding along rails, no rhythm but that set out by their punch card instructions.

Ines had always got along well with the automatons, nothing strange in that she thought - after all, what was there to dislike? Others moved away from such progress, out of the city, away from the modernisation, the mechanisation. Those who remained could see the potential in those punched cards, perforation after perforation, task after task, the programming grew more complex, the automatons more advanced. Soon, she hoped, they wouldn't need cards, they would run themselves, find their own freedom. They had cleared the city of noise, of crime, of patriarchy, they had given freedom to her, by her own hand. She was ready to return the favour.
