Spring Awakening - Fantasy Faire 2022

There was something in the air...
Something in the earth. Something shifting, from the swirl of magma far below to the patterns traced by skylarks chasing through the twilight sky.

In the caves beneath the pristine surface of Tenpyo the vibrations of the change could be seen in the flickering of the candles, now swaying almost imperceptibly in the ancient lanterns. The ripples of the waters told the tale of the shift, not only the turn of the season, but something deeper, as meaningful as winter melting to spring, fresh signs of life anew.

Selene had held the light of the moon in the palm of her hand, in these days and nights of spring it now warmed, glowed with more than its usual reflected light. This warmth came from the source of the vibration felt throughout nature, the addition to the blossoming of spring which had come and gone for so many years before. Now was the time to emerge into the daylight, to a world rendered anew through the power behind this new feeling. A world summoned, crafted and created by hope.

This was a world much changed of late. A world in which new terrors had overtaken those of old, though the old fears remained, lurking and gnawing at those they could reach. These fears, old and new, were brought to a new light each season, each day, each chime of the clock. Hope remained. Hope grew. Hope filled the worlds and wrought them, changing old patterns, forging new pathways, uncovering the way. The shift came from the people of the world, from those facing the fears. From those who had loved, and lost, and refused to let that be the end. For those fighting, caring, healing, challenging the ways things had always been. Those gnawing teeth would be made to loosen. The bite so dreaded be soothed and heal. Those who were lost will always be remembered, hope carrying their names into the light.

It's here! The Fantasy Faire has returned to bring hope and light to the world once again. We've been through so much since last we met, Covid continues. War rages. We are losing so much while fighting so hard. In these times of uncertainty, fear and dispair, this is a beacon of hope. The Fantasy Faire does what it has always done, it brings light. Something to look forward to, something to enjoy, which actually does you good, in addition to it a c t u a l l y d o i n g g o o d !!! Seriously folks, raising money for Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society, does real tangible good in the world. It brings relief to those suffering, it supports those toiling to find new treatments, it funds the searches for cures. This is a highlight, the heart and soul of my calendar, where not only can I make my life more interesting and fun through the beautiful creations of talented artists, I, and you can make a real difference to those facing, and fighting cancer. So please, take some time and take a break from the negatives of reality if you can. Dip into the light, life and beauty of the Fantasy Faire. Help people you will never meet. You may never know how much you mean to them, but believe it from me, they thank you.

Fantasy Faire 2020 - Revelation

The sands shifted as the spring breeze swirled into existence, chasing the last of the clinging frosts from the dunes. Grain tumbled over grain; a slip swelling into a landslide, uncovering what had remained buried for decades. The glimmer of crystal, a shining drop of blue amidst the sand. Emerging from the depths of the earth's clinging confinement, Arala stepped forth, pulling her staff free behind her.

"So dry... so barren..."
She coughed, the dust rattling loose as thoughts from the dark slowly coalesced. Understanding of what had happened dawned, her anger and disappointment grew. Grumbling to herself she looked around, poking here and there at the dunes with the base of her staff.
"It must be around here somewhere!"

The gentle touch of the breeze flowed over her, carrying with it the answer.
"Oh... It's me."

Arala began to climb. She had been looking for a reason, an actual revelation to explain her own.
She remembered the decline, the loss.
Her deminishment, through no fault of her own. There had been fault, but in this moment, it no longer seemed to matter. She was again. Conscious and present. It could mean only one thing. There was a place for her in the world again, all she had to do was take it. All things change, nothing lasts forever, neither joy nor pain. Life would return to the barren wastes, she would be the one to bring it. Her light grip tightened around her staff, as she smiled, rain began to fall.

It's BAAAAAAAAAAAACK! Fantasy Faire Time! And already I have typoed Fantasy as Fantasty and have had to change it. This happens EVERY year.
Anyway... clears throat and puts on a boxing match announcer voice...
It's back. It's bigger than ever. It's EIGHTEEN sims of amazing creations, wonderful people spending their money not only to get mindbogglingly gorgeous stuff, but to benefit the world by supporting the cause of fighting cancer. Fantasy Faire 2017

"What did you say?"
 "Hrrrrhhh..."
"No really, what did you say?"
"Oh, nothing. I'm just..."

Mona pushed off from the bridge, the softest whisper of wings on the air as she plummeted, rising again before touching the water, her wings setting up a steady beat as she sped toward Kit. Reaching the cliff edge, she chose not to land, swooping instead to a dead stop before her friend, unsteady only in that with each beat of her wings, she rose and fell several feet. These moods happened, she knew them well, and knew how to provoke Kit into shaking them off. The rise and fall was a tactic, an irritation supported in extreme cases by faces pulled and eyes crossed, all while staying just out of the reach of an outstretched arm.
 "You're just what?" Mona flopped over in the air, regarding Kit upside down as she dipped and rose. Not even a swipe as she came close. A frown gently creased her forehead, sure she wasn't being anywhere near as annoying as she was able, but still!

The cool breeze of a sigh wshing over her was all the response she received. "There you go again!" she grumbled, twisting in the air, the beat of her wings carrying her back out over the chasm. "Bloody sighing! That's all you've done all bloody day! Is it your damned ennui again?"
Kit finally moved, rising into the air herself. "If you ever let me express a damn thought without thinking you know what I'm going to say before my mouth even opens..."
Mona grinned, a single powerful sweep of her wings carrying her far out into the middle of the void. "Gotcha talking though didn't I? Not just..." she mimicked a long drawn out sigh, "Breathing at me." Following out into the open, Kit's wings beat, sending a ripple of turbulence strong enough to cause Mona to drop, laughing as she fell.
"Oooh the ennui..." Mona cried, dramatically holding a hand over her heart. "The ennui of it all!" "Idiot." Kit smiled, the emotion almost reaching her eyes. "Do you not even know what day it is?"

Mona looked back, blankly. "Tuesday?"
"Idiot." Kit repeated, humour finally glinting through. "For starters, it's Thursday. And to finish, How can you not know what day it is?"
Mona shrugged, then blinked. "No. No? No!"
Kit nodded, "Oh yes, it's snuck up on us this year. I mean, I knew it was coming... but I forgot just how much it takes. I just don't know if we can do it justice."
Mona looked around, noticing, apparently for the first time, that there was a chasm below them, behind them a bridge; the pressure of which, come to think of it, she could still feel against her spine, as though she had really rested against it. "Well..." she sighed, ignoring, or not noticing, the snort of laughter from Kit. "Well would you look at this?" Kit nodded, looking around properly herself. "Beautiful isnt it?" Mona just nodded, amazed. The two hovered, hands reaching out to clasp each other. Once again they had form, the spirits that entertained and comforted through the year could now act.
The world blossomed around them. They were so busy, always, but this was something else. Mona squeezed Kit's hand.
"We will do it justice. The people will come to see, to feel, to remember and to forget. The people will console and celebrate with us again. The people care."


Well my lovelies! It is indeed here again!!! THE FANTASY FAIRE!!!

Oh wow, last year I was so organised, I had holiday booked off from work to give me all the time I needed to prep, shop, photograph, shop, visit, shop, throw money at the Pawlice, take in the shows and shop again. This year, things are a little different. While I'm on 'holiday' I'm working all hours, and am actually really worried that I won't be able to do the Faire, or RL the justice they deserve! The SL mantra RL comes first is right, this is just such a cross over of worlds! You may have noticed I've not posted in a while, a really long while - I can't even promise to do better until I've finished my current course. But I can promise I miss it, and Relay for Life means so much to me.

Fantasy Faire 2017 Sneak Peek - Faerie Queene

She couldn’t understand how she ended up in the chilly winter forest. How could her own people ban her...? Or was it Chancellor Thornheart who plotted against her and some spineless courtiers just followed his lead? Queen Flutterwillow shivered. Whoever cursed her picked the harshest and cruellest one for a delicate Flower Fae... the dreaded “Expeliatis” that ejected her from her kingdom and transported her to this wilderness of ice and snow. Yet, after a second or two, Queen Flutterwillow stood up, grabbed her magic wand, and conjured a swarm of colourful butterflies from thin air. “They will keep me warm until I arrive...” – she thought, lifted the hem of her gossamer gown, and started marching along the forest path covered in snow, towards home.

Fantasy Faire 2017 Sneak Peek - The Priestess

The priestess Ashera Sylstina was ready for the evening ritual. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and gently bowed towards the setting Sun first, then towards the slowly raising Moon. She was truly grateful for the day that was ending… the Mermaids were happy and content in their deep cove beneath the Temple, the Crystal Fountain was quietly trickling, the Dragons of the Iron Mountains were happily chasing sheep in a faraway realm… Life was good. The priestess Ashera Sylstina touched her High Crown, and a pleasantly warm feeling rushed through her body. The Goddess, who once gifted the first Priestess with the artifact, was content, too. „All is well…” – she whispered, and slowly walked back to the Temple across the Crystal Bridge.

Valkyrie - Ember's Cauldron Shopping Event

“Hlanhildur, Daughter of the Gods”. A warrior maiden, a divine being, whose noble duty is to select and bring her chosen heroes, killed in battle, to Valhalla. Yet, when she joined the group of Valkyrie apprentices, nobody told her openly about the race of the heroes she would accompany to the table of Odin. She just presumed they would be human. When Hlanhildur finished her Valkyrie training her first mission was to fly to a battlefield in darkest Dwarfheim, and bring back the soul of the bravest... bear, that fell while defending his homeland from the invading dwarves. Hlanhildur sighed. Today was the day of the great battle between the High Elves and Dragons... and she was not ordered to choose the soul of an Elven warrior.

Wild Winged Creatures - Ember's Cauldron Shopping Event

 

The raven knew. Its smart beady eyes looked at his mistress with a mixture of pity and amusement. Fairies were sooo... fragile, compared to a freshly hatched raven chicken. Yet, the raven couldn’t abandon the Lady Anen to her fate. He was her familiar spirit, and that was it. The raven cawed and hoped that the Lady Anen could hear him through the blizzard that chilled her blood and roughed her up, brutally and painfully. The raven could see the ancient oak through the veil of wildly swirling snowflakes... the Oak, the asylum and sanctuary for all winged creatures great and small in The Forest. “She will do it... she reminds me of my firstborn, Qreeth... a cheeky lil fellow...” – thought the raven, and flapped his wings in encouragement.

The Sea Witch - "Filling The Cauldron" Event

Lorelei Blackwave, the lonely sea witch stood on the seashore and she was very sad. She had been exiled from her home under the sea so many years before that she almost forgot how the lights used to dance on the corals and how she used to play with the tame fish. An elaborate incantation went wrong, terribly wrong... and the council of the surviving sea witches and warlocks unanimously decided that she had to leave. She used her incantations on Earth plants ever since, she grew an entire forest of never-seen creatures around the little cave where she lived... but each and every evening, at sunset, she went as close to the salty waves as the ban curse permitted, and whispered goodnight to the deep silent waters.

The Forest Guardian

Laerornel Treesong eyed the suspicious bump protruding from the smooth and even forest floor. „Oh, those pesky moles!” – she thought - „They are up to no good again…” As Forest Guardian, she was supposed to keep the little parcel of ground in pretty neat order… no disorderly vines spreading their sneaky tendrils wherever they wanted to, no red poppies in the ocean of white flowers. The bump moved again, almost invisibly, yet it moved. Something green appeared among the soft clods of deep brown earth. It was not a mole. It was... a plant. It had something colourful, like a bud, on the stem that drilled through the earth with determination. “I should uproot this rebel!” – Laerornel Treesong murmured to herself; then she stood still for a while. “Maybe I’ll do it tomorrow. Maybe it is an unauthorised plant... but it might also happen that it’s utterly beautiful”. She tiptoed away from the newcomer in the forest, already looking forward to next day’s visit at the silent and peaceful patch among the trees.

Spring is indeed around the corner IRL, too… so why not to wear something fresh and green, with flowers and tree leaves?

Fantasy Faire - the last dance

Morning had broken, like the first morning. Though, this was the last morning, and the bird cawing over the alcove in which she had slept, while black, was distinctly corvid in nature. Mist thickly carpeted the tunnel system snaking its way through the landscape, as she stretched and yawned, it was through these tunnels she would fly.

Each of the Fairelands had a charm all of its own. There were hours when the brightness and pretty colours called, windmills and bunting turning cheerfully. Others, she needed the hustle an bustle of the sun drenched marketplace, the blown sand scouring everything clean. Mostly though, she was drawn to the twilight and the darkness, as only in these places could the lights be seen to shine. It was here the lights of remembrance could be found, one by one in niches or on branches, in groups, crowding shelves and alcoves, creating all the heat they needed to rise into the air and dance. It was here you would find her, on this, the last day of the Faire.

Soon the mists would rise higher, all the wonderful worlds drawn into being by the Faire would be engulfed, drifting apart for another year. Endings, always horribly sad, were not permanent. Anything learned, or gained would remain, carried within until the calendar brought everyone together again. There was not long left now, she would rather rejoice in what had been achieved than let herself sink into sorry. She would like to take you with her, to stay as long as possible in the world they had created, to stay happy, and revel in the beauty that could be found. She's waiting, all you have to do is reach out, and take her hand.

It was all going swimmingly... Fantasy Faire 2016

Adrienne had had it. Had it up to the gills. It had started slowly, centuries earlier, or so the tales caved into the sacred story rocks told. A new shadow on the surface, on the barrier between their world, and the dry suffocating world above. A new creature, that's all. So they had thought.

It was carved, it had become part of their history. Just a new creature, a new predator. One day there would be no fish, where there had been fish before. Another, there would be a slick of blood and oil marring the surface; bones cracked and burned fell through the water to pile on sands. No predator hunted so indiscriminately, none took so much, sweeping vast swathes of the sea clear.

This night she would rest. They all would. They needed to. Come the morning, with the turn of the tide, the seas would change. Shoals of fish swept away would reform. Bones had always carpeted the deep. The clog of plastic, however, was stifling the ocean. The world above had contaminated the seas for too long. Tomorrow they were going to give it all back. The stones would be carved anew.

The mists lift - the Fantasy Faire is here!

The day was finally dawning, after a long year of waiting.

Within the waiting, there had been work, so much work. So much careful attention.

The wait could feel like an exile, of course it was.

The distance was all a part of it. It made the coming together what mattered.

It formed the magic, the magic spreading into being, out there, just beyond the mists.

The mists crept back the whole world over.

In darkness, dawn, the brightness of day to the deepening of twilight to dusk.

The thick fog which obscured all vision had drifted together over the preceding days.

Only this provided a clue as to where the magic would truly come alive.

From all over the world the would come, by ship, by balloon, by any means possible.

In the depths the change in the world was felt.

Where no sun shone, and no season passing wrought change.

They felt it, the magic drawing together, more powerful year on year.

The magic was the people, they came from every sphere, each addition bringing its own flare.

The fire burned brighter, every being working towards one goal, one fight.

The fight for life.

The mists fade, the gates swing open. The world is changed once more. The Fantasy Faire is here.

Fantasy Faire 2015 - Midnight Sakura

Cherry trees usually blossom in the daytime. Ordinary cherry trees, and ordinary flowers, maybe... but not the mythical Nightshadow Sakura, the admired and treasured plant that maybe two dozen adventurers have ever witnessed to turn into a bouquet of splendid silky flowers for one night only, promptly fading away at the next dawn. For the Nightshadow Sakura is a messenger of great and important tidings... whether good or bad, however, the flowers cannot foretell. They only glow in a soft silky mysterious light, as if smiling, and observe the world with majestic grace...

Outfit and accessories: "K'aalogii" by -AZUL-. This fabulous kimono set is a RFL donation item (850 L$), created in the true and authentic -AZUL- style, which is a synonym for "grandiose" and "regal". :) You can find their shop in the YoZakura sim, so don't hesitate to pay a visit.

Light in the Darkness - Fantasy Faire 2015

Sunbeams filtered down through the lush green canopy, warming the woodland carpet of mosses and ferns. These daylight hours were precious, the woods around the settlement friendly and welcoming, she could walk for hours along pathways, through glades, away from the work of the town. Away from needlework, away from the soot blackened range, away from the cares of totting up household accounts. Sylvia came here, as so many others did while the sun shone, to enjoy the quiet, to relax and enjoy her freedom.

All with a care for their own safety left the woods before sundown...

Sylvia had reasons to linger through the twilight, staying in the woods past sunset, past moonrise. Her safety mattered of course, but much less to her than her freedom. She had some during the day, but that freedom was held in check. In the moonlight she could run swift as any deer, her antlers brushing leaves and twigs aside. Those in the town feared what lurked in the darkness, she sought it out. Bow and arrows in hand she followed traces and tracks, hunting down the malevolence wherever it tried to hide. Through thicket and in the depths of gorges she would search, always her aim, to keep her freedom, and allow others theirs.

This is it! The mists have lifted, revealing the Fantasy Faire 2015! 

If there is one event you go to this year - take my advice, make this it. Thirteen outstandingly beautiful SIMs, the very best designers in SL, all with one aim. Relay for Life.

Wafts of music and the hubbub of voices drifted through the gardens from the packed marquee atop the hill.

The garden party was turning into a soiree as afternoon turned through twilight into evening. Lamps were lit around the dancefloor, sweet tunes surpassed by more raucous driving beats, setting the glow worms shining in the trees. "Go down to the river..." the music murmured, singing carried on the breeze. "Come down to the river..." Who could resist such a siren call, the grass beneath her soft and cool, refreshing feet tired from dancing. Down the hill, toward the river, into wisps of mist...

Music was still playing as she woke, music from instruments much closer at hand than the band atop the hill. Deep rhythmic bass croaked from throats all around, complimented with the soft burble of altos, and a strange high soprano, pleasant to her ears, and yet the vague nudge of memory that such a sound had been annoying mere moments before, a mosquito's whine.

Something had happened as she waded through the stream, that much she could feel. The sounds coming from the top of the hill seemed alien, familiar but so strange, like a half remembered dream. She recalled dancing, felt the slow movement of the water bending her steps in a new formation. Other revellers moved from behind trees, rocks, and blades of grass; friends and acquaintances, all had come to the river, and been changed by it. Nymphs and dryads, all were made at the dance.
