The Moulin Rouge was hosting an evening filled with more more stars than could be seen in the firmament over Paris. The elephant was out back of course, for those who loved the movies and the romance of it all. Others had bought their tickets for the show months in advance. Rumor had it that they were now changing hands now for staggering sums. The management had no problem with that. The ticket touts were all on their payroll, and tonight, more than any other night, they were happy to see prices going sky high. The show tonight was for the survivors. They were the stars. They had built the sets, rigged the lighting, designed and sewn the costumes, they would be the ones to tread the boards. They played each instrument. The applause was theirs, as they were the audience. Those who survived, day by day, or all together. Still fighting, still surviving. Glasses would be raised to those who through no fault of their own, were absent in body, if not in spirit. The lights are flashing, people are taking their seats. Time to take to the stage.

Dawn to Midnight - Fashion For Life 2014

High above the rooftops of the city stood the beacon. On the beacon Dawn waited. She had waited all night, just as she did; each and every night. People thought she was a morning person. They were wrong. She was THE morning person, and for that, she stayed up all night.


Eleven o'clock was mere hours away, the time the ball was due to start. She and the palace workers had spent weeks dusting away cobwebs and polishing the floor until it shone like burnished gold. Now, wrapped up in silk to match the sky of approaching midnight, she paced the floor. Waiting, waiting, heartbeat racing; then finally, the first knock at the door.

Now, I know I'm always positive about items I blog here, why would I blog things I didn't like? But this, this is in a league of its own. The design of this is something else. Layers of fabric akin to articulated armour, all in beautifully textured fabric.

Fashion trends are just as real in SL as RL, here the same flowing articulation is worked in the fabric. The beautiful midnight silk is offset perfectly by the metallic shoulder piece.


Fashion for Life runs until the 20th - so get on over to the Sims, and do something wonderful by shopping!
There is also a 'Passport' game to play - pick up a HUD, then on each SIM, in the GACHA section, there's a souvenir to purchase for L$ 50. Wear or add, and your passport gets a stamp. Collect em all, and head back to the TP point of any of the Sims, and pick your Prize, donated by some of the great designers at the event. I went for the -IrodorI- Red peony, a complete outfit with hair! I think it looks pretty good too!

Surprises

They found the house in the late afternoon. They knew that the weather would change in the evening so this was more than a welcome surprise. It meant they could rest.  Fizzla had to slice the electric lock of the door which took a while. But it meant that somehow the house seemed to have electricity which was a surprise as most devices had been destroyed in the catastrophe. It gave them the hope that it would be a good safehouse for a while. Especially since they had not seen any tracks of others in the area. When they finally got inside they were amazed although not everything they found inside seemed to be of use for them.

The first picture has been taken in the Stillness in Time Skyloft from 22769 Bauwerk. The skybox is made of mesh and is perfect for those who like a lot of wall space for pictures. It also already has an artwork inside (which can be hidden).
Epic made a helmet which reminds on the helmet worn by tank girl in the comics with the same name. Different from the comics this one comes with cat ears. It is very well textured and all the little details make it look really cute at the moment it is being sold as a donation item at fashion for life. Moola created a bunch of t-shirts. The one on the pictures shows a monkey. The Melody skirt from Somnia is textured so that it looks like the keys of a piano. Both items are made of mesh and come in the standard sizes. The ingrid mesh hair from wasabi pills is a playful and slightly wild cut. It also has the benefit of fitting well under helmets in case of not wanting to wear a helmet without hair.  
Bliensen + MaiTai created heels for fashion for life. The shoes are available in many colours and each of those colours comes with a hud which allows to change the tone as well as the colours of some parts of the shoes. The tones are all very vibrant and having the chance to switch between tones allows to match them perfectly to an outfit.

Amazon Mischief - FFL 2014

Follow the river upstream from the ocean. Follow the twists and turn, leap cataracts and eventually you could find yourself at the camp. Angela had been here only a few weeks, the heat and light rousing her each morning from sleep. Mosquitoes and dragonflies vied in airborne currents above the flowing torrent. Smoke rose from the campfire, carrying with it the intoxicating scent of fresh brewed coffee. The others on the expedition had their reasons, their own causes dragging them the miles. Most strove for science, cataloguing and recording, some hopeful for conservation, others seeking to document what would soon be lost. Angela followed neither path. She was here to conserve, not through collecting and copying what nature produced so freely back home in some lab, but by doing all she could to ensure nature would remain out here, where it belonged. She knew there were some among the party, those with more mercenary motives, badly hidden by science. Those looking for fault lines, places where the bounty beneath the earth could be ransacked for monetary gain thousands of miles away from the lives such actions would destroy. Not if she could help it. A spilled cup of coffee on a laptop here, a stack of notes toppling into the campfire there... who could be blamed? She was saving them all, whether they liked it or not.

Fashion For Life 2014 Britt hits London

Dawn broke on the streets of the captial after a long London night. Britt was far from ready to head home; these days, it felt more like home as she walked the streets, saw the sights, was part of it all. As the sun rose, so did she. From pacing beside deserted bus stops, she headed into the heart of town. On the other side of the ocean, people were breakfasting at Tiffanys, here, she would feast her eyes on all the sights Mayfair had to offer, strutting along The Strand in killer heels. A long day, teasing the guards in their bearskins at the Palace, waving and curtseying to the Queen - she knew how to read the flags, the Monarch was at home. All the city was alive, some refined, some outlandish, all quintessentially British. Britt relaxed, leaning against the lions guarding Nelson's column. The thrum of the traffic, the cooing of the pigeons, the clinking of the buttons on the pearly kings and queens... She was home. And she loved it.

Fashion For Life 2014

Armed Face

Fashion for life a fundraising event for Relay for Life will start today. On 10 sims designers show their latest creations and help raising money for cancer research. But Fashion for Life is way more. There are events as runway shows as well as live djs. The range of items at this event is very wide. There are of course women's outfits as well as clothing for men and children. Even hair and posemakers take part. The official website contains way more detailed information.

The Sehr eye device from Crie Style is one of the most awesome items which are sold at fashion for life. It is made of unrigged mesh so it is possible to move it a bit but it is not possible to make it smaller. The device looks like a sight device with added projectiles worn directly at the head. It is an item which most likely is awesome for roleplay and besides of that also looks very good.
The skin and the shape come from Deluxe Body Factory while the dress is being made by [sYs].
The Sadie hair comes from Wasabi Pills. It is a very playful hair style with braids and a ponytail at the side of the head. The pose has been made by purple poses.

Relay the news...

Relay and Fashion for Life in 2013 is a massive event, with some of SL's best designers putting what are often exclusive objects, items and outfits up for sale to raise money for the American Cancer Society. You can find the  Fashion for life SIM here.

I do have to say that I'm concerned that the organisers may not be making the most of the event. Following the link on the SL login screen, or by searching for the event, you get to the SIM above (often under the floor). Here, you can find the gatchas - where you randomly get one of several different versions of an item by paying a low low price. This is of course, great - but this is all that many visiting the event seem to find.

I was walking around for ages, buying from the gatchas, and searching for the stores. Many MANY others (so it wasn't just me not knowing where to go) were doing the same, confusion about the lack of stores was leading to annoyance.

To make things clear - the seven SIMS around the main Fashion for Life SIM, named and styled after the seven wonders of the ancient world are where you find the stores. I tp'd to one as a last gasp hope before giving up and leaving.

THERE THE STORES WERE! I started imming those who had been similarly frustrated in the main SIM - and sadly many were too annoyed at the time they had spent there already to want to go shopping. This is potentially a massive loss of revenue, so if you go, PLEASE let those around you know!

I've not even made it to all of the SIMs yet - I will be back, most likely with enough new stuff for another post.

Relay for Life 2013 is on now!  Here in RL, Cancer Research UK has just begun a new style of ad campaign to raise money for the cause. Very different to earlier campaigns, focusing on the sadness, and hope that go hand in hand with a cancer diagnosis, this is all about fighting back. It's positive, it's inspiring, it's time. Go shopping, spend all you can, get fantastic stuff while donating to the most worthwhile cause of all. Life.

Tick Tock

„If I can’t scratch my nose in a second, I’m going to die on this spot” – thought Clicketina Tock, and wriggled her nose anxiously. But when you are Universal Vice Manager of Time, you cannot just jump around and do somersaults. You accidentally push an hourglass attached to your dress, and the people living in Australia, Peru or Luxemburg realise that there’s something seriously wrong with time. A second ago they were eating lunch and suddenly it’s deep night, or they were slumbering comfortably and now there’s midday sunshine pouring into the bedroom. „Damned Chronos!” – thought Clicketina angrily. After hundreds of thousands of years of service, her boss suddenly decided to go on holidays… and, given that the length of his accrued vacation time was about fifty thousand years, Clicketina wasn’t expecting to see her boss very soon.

„How dared he leave me here, all on my own!” – grumbled Clicketina silently. „He had a great assistant, me, and now I don’t even have a third-class candidate for temporary apprenticeship to help me, and my nose itches like hell!” Clicketina tried to resist, but the itch was stronger. She started sneezing… and the people in Australia, Peru and Luxemburg fell out of their beds or dropped their spoons and looked around in utter confusion. „This is the end of the world!” – some people thought anxiously… while it was only Clicketina Tock rubbing her nose with a beatific smile on her face, and she felt she was the happiest creature in this wide, endless Universe.

Fashion For Life 2012

For her, as usual, the darkness was everywhere, the flashbulbs bursting all around lit her beautifully, but showed her nothing of those watching.

Not that it mattered, it was her they had come to see, and she was there to be seen after all. No mere red carpet, this was the runway of the year, all eyes were on her.

Against the spangled backdrop, the red of her hair stood out like a splash of freshly spilled blood, its motion as she moved, as fluid as the sanguine liquid it resembled, carried the illusion further. As the cameras clicked, the whispers began..

                           "Who is she wearing?"

                                                        "The cut of the silk, so daring, so new, so now!"

The soft voices of the fashion and gossip reporters were soon drowned out, along with the scratches of sharp pencils on paper, frantically sketching the dress. The louder, hoarser voices of the photographers

covered all others with shouts for her attention, trying to make her turn this way, then that, looking for the shot that would bring their money for the year.

Dropping a hip, slouching a shoulder, she gave them what they wanted, the midnight blue of the silk caressing her every curve. The designer's skill cut the cloth so it shone under the lights, careful and intricate pleats added drama to the gown,  the sections woven finer gave movement even as she posed. She would never pose for long, this brief outing was all it would take for the gown to become the sensation it was designed to be.

Crossing her arms across her chest, as if in some fundamental move of protection, she had their attention, this had not happened before. All sounds died away as she parted her lips, preparing to speak in her low voice, one that carried through the crowds...

   "In all of the darkness, there is a light shining. The light is people doing what they can to help."

 

This is the -Azul- Marcela gown, in Sapphire, a colour exclusively available at the Fashion For Life 2012 event.

As a dress, it is truly beautiful, the colour is rich, and accented with black on the pleats. It involves a system skirt, which usually would have me sighing and resigning it to the 'will never wear' pit at the bottom of my invent. System skirts never work with my shape, and I do hate to change my shape.

For this, however, the creators have very helpfully included a notecard with details of shape measurements to make the system skirt look its best. So, here, the ass is a lot smaller than usual, and I'm a bit knock-kneed (though you can't tell). Most importantly, even with the suggested alterations, it still looked like me. Big plus. 

The biggest plus, of course, is that as part of the Fashion For Life event, the proceeds from the sale go to the American Cancer Society. Fighting cancer, bit by bit, in each and every country is a goal everyone can get behind.

FallnAngel at Fashion for life

More deliciousness from the Fashion for life event and this time it's from FallnAngel creations. I love a bit of costumery from time to time and none more so that a big fancy bustle, so the Victorian feel of the Anna gown is right up my street, the kimono's too,I'm sure you'll agree are pretty exquisite.

For a little extra drama I decided to wear skins from Matrioska doll skins which is a subsidiary of blue blood. There are 3 tones to opt for with each skin, and a tattoo make layer to add for extra dramatic effect, so here's the blurb if you like what you see.....

Miamai at fashion for life

My second post relating to Fashion for life includes this delightfully opulent dress from Miamai (can be found on the dream seekers volta sim) which I want someone to make for me RL! I  love every element of this design, the shape, proportions subtle pattern and most of all what makes it for me is the peacock feather neck piece. There is a range of colours to choose from and plenty of other designs in store so please don't miss out on this one. The skin is one I have previously blogged by Hush (also exclusive at the fashion for life event) but It's my current favourite so you'll see me wear this a lot.

Fashion for life

Over the next few days I shall be covering a number of items from Fashion for life, it's an incredible charity event for Cancer with so many designers on board making amazing creations for such a worthy cause. There's a lot to say about this but i'll keep it as brief as possible and you can gather more info from  THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE.

So here's the low down, there are over 200 stores participating over 10 sims all individually named which include a hunt, gacha's and unique sale items created for the event. There is also an entertainment sim in which to have a bit of fun and socialise, what reason have you got to not take part?

Today I'm opting for skins by Hush which can be found at  Dream seekers zeit  Hush has 4 make- up different skins in the 'Amy' range, each one has 6 different skin tone, 3 brow & 2 cleavage options. There's also a modifiable shape and eyelashes in each pack. I've picked out 3 different makes ups each with a different tone for you to see.

Kouse's Sanctum at fashion for life

A lady standing lonely in the mountains. She rests for a moment from wandering around. Her dress is elegant and maybe not made for the mountains but she does not care at all.

Today is the last day of fashion for life so its a good reason to visit it for a last time. Those three gowns are all donation items from Kouse's Sanctum a great store for dresses for romantic dances or roleplay. The upper one is very festive with the patterns and the mix of the colours is nice. I like the ruffles at the top very much and also the sleeves are pretty unique. They are made using the sytem layer and prims. That is much smarter than makeing the whole sleeves out of prims in my opinion.

The black dress might be perfect for playing a woman who works. It has an apron and small lace pattern at the bottom of the skirt. The corset has a white laceing in the front. The sleeves fit well to the dress. And of course the black textures are pretty well made so that they do look black although being shades of black and dark grey. The skirt and the apron come in several versions. The skirt could be worn short or long and the apron comes in red and purple.

This purple gown has a overskirt which looks a bit like blossoms. The sleeves are made of very fine lace in the same colour as the skirt. And it has a layer of lace which goes over the shoulder. The sleeves are also not directly connected to the dress as at the other two dresses.

Kouse Singh the owner of Kouse's Sanctum gave also a statement why she takes part at fashion for life and does so much for the whole Relay for Life movement. It has been published on the fashion for life site and is definitly worth to read.

Suiting menssuit

Going for a walk before having to head back to an important event. And of course wearing a suit.

M Design takes part at fashion for life. This is one of the outfits they sell there and also at their mainstore. The suit is made for men but it suits women as well. And it does not use the skirt layer as some tuxs do. Very nice is the idea of selling lots of different versions of the top. There are versions of the jacket without the tie and the shirt and also with the tie in many different colours. So the jacket fits always to the dress of the one you are going out with. Or you just buy the fatpack which contains all versions.
These three shirts are also items form M Design. They are also for men but they are textured in a way which fits both genders. They are very comfy and come on all layers. The grey one on the left is one a donation item for relay for life. Fashion for life will end at the 22th so hurry to shop there.

Fins and Scales

Some myths say that the merpeople are cold and wet and that the life they live in the deepths of the seas is boring and without beauty. Those myth are wrong. The culture of the merpeople is impressing. They grow special flowers in their garden and they know how to make wonderful dresses out of fish which is only raised for that. The merpeople keep most of those dresses for themself but some make it on the surface.

LeeZu takes part at Fashion for Life and they have wonderful dresses as donation item. The dress on the first picture reminds me on a betta with all the colourful fins. Although i m not sure if black betta exist as the scales of the dress are black. The shades of black and dark magenta fit well together. The idea to mix flowers, fins and scales is unique in my opinion and i have to admit that i love the dress and enjoy walking around in it. It is also a great item for roleplay as you always could say it has been made of giant fish you hunted or is something your family owns for centuries. I only had to adjust the top and the gloves a bit to make the dress fit my avatar. So maybe it takes about 15 minutes on a posestand to adjust the dress but its definitly worth to take the time for that.

This white black dress also has a very unique cut. Which is mainly created by the collar. The dress could be worn just as top or with one of the three included skirts. On the picture you could see the dress with the sculpted skirt, the other included skirts are a sculpted one with some flexi parts over it which look a bit like a lace and have the same pattern as the rest of the dress and a babydoll skirt. The sleeves are also sculpted. If your avatar is only 1,96m in high heels as mine you will need to resize the dress also. But it is easy with those skirts and the collar. It did not take much time. What i really love is how classic and modern this dress is at the same time. And i was really surprised when i recognized that this dress, although the skirt is longer than a miniskirt, goes pretty well with overknee boots. I really like this combination. Of course it also fits great to high heels.

This white dress also comes with three skirts. The top has a very open cut. I liked the skirt with the bows best as it is cute. The other two skirts are one with tealength and one which is short but without the bows. This dress reminds me very much on spring but it might also work well in summer as it is very open and its not very likely to sweat while wearing it.

This is the black version of the above dress. It has some white squares on the skirt which make it look more intresting. It also comes with three skirts. This one is the tealong one. This dress lets me think of an artist who might wear a sophisticated dress.

All those dresses are donation items that means if you buy them the money will go directly to Relay for Life and help to find a cure for cancer or at least make somebody happy while having a horrible time in his or her life.

Magnolia Fairy

She always loved magnolias but she was surprised when finding the huge magnolia blossoms in her garden. They were nearly as big as she was. But with some effort she managed to dry them and to press them. Knowing some tricks she even avoided that the blossoms changed their colour during the drying and flatening process. She was very content when seeing the result. Being much thicker than normal pressed flowers she even was able to make a dress with them.

Lois Allen Designs takes part at fashion for life. As all designers who take part in this charity event for Relay for Life she donates four items which are sold in special vendors. The money which gets collected through that goes directly to Relay for Life and will support their work to find finally a cure for cancer. So here two of the donation dresses from Lois. The upper one looks like being made of magnolia blossoms. It comes with fitting wings so it is perfect for every flower fairy. Very lovely are the fitting anklet and wristlet, and the set also includes a fitting necklace and a flower for the hair.
The pink dress on the other picture is something for fairy princesses. It has a big skirt and elegant wings. The jewlery seeable on the picture belongs to the set as well. The dress is impressive so the one who wears it might gain a lot of attention.

Elegant and classic

She always wanted to have her own bar. When she found the empty loft she knew that this was perfect. The large windows the roof with the glass. It was just the perfect place and most surprising there was allready a piano in it. She had no idea how it got up into the loft but it was there and it was perfect. So she only needed to get furniture and she was done. This evening she would open the bar for the first time. She was dressed perfectly for that event.

Shiki takes part at Fashion for Life. Their donation items are classical and elegant. I like the upper combination with the sweater and the skirt a lot. It looks like being made to go for a snack in a bar or to spend some time danceing. I had to make the belt a bit smaller and to move the prims of the sweater but it worked well.
The white dress has great textures and as it is a dress in second life it has the benefit that you do not need to be careful to avoid that it gets dirty. It comes with fur for the shoulders. The skirt is non flexi and i made it also a bit smaller until it fit perfectly.

Smoking in a jacket

Smoking a cigar while thinking about which pictures might fit best at the walls. And not being worried at all about the consequences smoking might have for the health. Being able to smoke rings is a good reason to be proud too.

As much as i dislike smoking in real life i love to smoke in second life. I love elegant cigarette holders, impressive cigars and sloppy cigarettes which hang out of the mouth. And in second life all of this is possible with having to cough, causing cancer and getting smelly hair. So my avatar smokes without feeling guilty at all (as dragon its also natural to smoke). This cigar comes from the gentleman store. It has several kinds of smokes which could be activated, rings, smoke which gets blown out of the mouth or nose or for the intensive smoker it is even possible to smoke out of the ears.
The jacket is the hunt gift from schoen in the fashion for life hunt. I had to look around a bit till i found it. The huntitems in this hunt cost between 10-100Linden. It comes with several versions of the prim parts so it was not needed to adjust it. The texture is quite unique and it goes very well with black.
I think i blog the rest of the outfit quite often, i really like it. Its from devious mind and normaly for dancing on a stage or to lay around on a pretty red couch.
